While some have proclaimed the world to be “globalized”, “Europe” is seeking to establish exterior borders permitting its member states to control the movement of people. To establish borders and tie Europe to a policy which is inadequate in the face of transnational movements, or to track individuals with technology which renders geographical borders obsolete? This is the dilemma facing “Europe” and nation states in the modern era. A dilemma which we discuss in exploring border-creating activities and their effect.
