Understanding politics today also means understanding how it is communicated, how it spreads and how it shapes our perception of the world. To explore these connections, ESPOL and ISTC, two schools within Université Catholique de Lille, are joining forces to launch a new degree programme in September 2027: the Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and Communication.
A bilingual programme combining political analysis, media literacy and communication practice.
In an age of social media, disinformation and artificial intelligence, the relationship between politics and communication plays a central role in our societies. This new degree programme explores these connections through an interdisciplinary approach, combining the theories and methods of political science and social sciences with media studies, management and professional communication practices.
Its aim is to equip students with the tools to analyse political and social phenomena, decode communication strategies and understand the interactions between political actors, the media and citizens.
ESPOL and ISTC: two complementary areas of expertise
Since 2012, ESPOL has been preparing students to engage with major political, European and international issues. Its interdisciplinary approach, bilingual teaching and international outlook enable students to develop strong analytical skills and gain an in-depth understanding of contemporary dynamics.
ESPOL already offers three Bachelor’s degree programmes: the European Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science, the Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations and the Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE). All three place a strong emphasis on language learning, diverse disciplinary approaches and international perspectives.
With this new programme, ESPOL draws on ISTC’s expertise in communication and management. The complementary strengths of the two schools bring together critical analysis and professional skills within a single degree, helping students better understand today’s political and media landscape.
A bilingual, international and career-oriented programme
In keeping with ESPOL’s international outlook, the programme will offer bilingual teaching from the first year, alongside the study of a second foreign language. Students will also have the opportunity to study abroad during the spring semester of their second year.
Practical experience will also play an important role, with internships throughout the programme. On the Vauban campus, a vibrant student community and a wide range of student associations will provide further opportunities to get involved, lead projects and develop practical skills.
By combining theoretical knowledge, international exposure and hands-on experience, the programme aims to prepare students for further academic study while helping them gradually shape their career plans.
What career and further study opportunities does the Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and Communication offer?
Bringing together several disciplines, this degree opens up a wide range of opportunities. Graduates will be able to pursue further studies in France or abroad in fields such as political science, communication, public affairs, media, journalism and international relations.
The programme is designed for students who are curious about social change, want to understand the role of information in public life and wish to develop the skills needed to communicate in an ever-evolving political and media environment.
The Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and Communication will be available on Parcoursup when the platform opens, ahead of its first intake in September 2027.
