Online masterclass: “Europe: its identity and values in time of crisis”

Oriane Calligaro, Associate professor of political science, offers an online masterclass on “Europe: its identity and values in time of crisis”, one of the topics explored in the Master’s in Multilevel Governance in Europe.

Abstract: The European Union is currently facing unprecedented challenges. Internally, several Member States are witnessing the rise of ultra-nationalist movements. Externally, the EU is confronted with the war in Ukraine, increasing pressure and threats from Russia, and growing tensions with its long-standing partner, the United States.
In this critical context, an old yet pressing question re-emerges: does a coherent European identity exist, and what are the common European values that bind us together and that we should defend?
This webinar will explore these fundamental issues and invite students to reflect on a simple but far-from-easy question: is there a European people, and can we speak of a shared European community of values?
