Raul Magni Berton is professor of political science at the Catholic University of Lille (ESPOL), where he is deputy director, and researcher at ESPOL-LAB. He defended his thesis at Paris 4 – Sorbonne in 2002 and obtained the aggregation of universities in 2009. He has taught in Paris, Montreal, Bordeaux and Grenoble, and, as a visiting professor, in Geneva, Stuttgart and Turin. A specialist in comparative political regimes, he works in particular on democratic systems, their legitimacy and their capacity to substitute for violence. His current research focuses on direct democracy and its effects.
