Research areas

  • Food sovereignty
  • Climate governance
  • Sustainable food systems
  • Rooted in his personal background as a farmer, Francesco brings a unique perspective to his research on food sovereignty, land rights, climate governance, and sustainable food systems. In a world increasingly dominated by global food value chains, his work seeks to empower communities, foster transparency, and reimagine the relationship between humanity, food, and the planet. His PhD project aims to investigate the intersections of social and ecological justice, examining how power dynamics shape food policies and rethinking what a truly sustainable transformation means for food landscapes.

Francesco holds an M.A. in Food Politics and Sustainable Development from ESPOL, where he explored the relationship between the Paris Agreement and green-grabbing, uncovering how international climate policies influence corporate behaviours and land use practices. His academic journey began with a B.Sc. in Economics and Marketing in the Agro-Industrial Systems at the University of Bologna, Italy.
