The ‘Philosophy, Politics and Economics’ degree or PPE offers students the opportunity to gain an in-depth understanding of the contemporary world by studying these three key areas for a better analysis of modern issues. Its main goal? To enable students to master the fundamental tools needed to rapidly decipher the major issues facing contemporary societies.

Overview

An international, professionally-oriented course 

A degree in PPE will equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to pursue a wide range of careers in the public and private sectors at national and international level, including public policy, governmental and non-governmental organisations, diplomacy, data management, risk analysis, business and finance. 

Linguistic and intercultural skills

Students also acquire the language and intercultural skills that are essential for working in an international context. They can learn several foreign languages, including English, German, Spanish, Italian, Chinese, Russian, Arabic, Japanese, Portuguese, Dutch, Korean, Polish, Turkish and BCMS.

A multicultural environment 

Student mobility is also a central element of the ESPOL programme. All students are required to complete a university exchange semester, an internship, or a humanitarian project during their course. 

ESPOL is a college with a global outlook Students come from all over the world, creating a stimulating multicultural environment. 

To help students succeed, a number of measures have been put in place to support them throughout their time at ESPOL: 

  • ORAL EXAM: This 30-minute oral examination generally consists of a question from the course or a commentary on a text and is divided into three parts: presentation, discussion and debriefing. 
  • TUTORING: You can ask a teacher for a meeting to discuss a problem you have seen in class or to go into more detail about issues linked to the taught material. 
  • ROLE PLAYING & SIMULATIONS: Theatrical situations to encourage oral expression in a number of courses, including EU Policy Making and Economic, Social & Political Ethics… 

Job opportunities

A degree in PPE will equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to pursue a wide range of careers in the public and private sectors at national and international level, including public policy, governmental and non-governmental organisations, diplomacy, data management, risk analysis, business and finance. But also:

  • Jobs involving the written word: publishing, journalism, translation, various positions in government or institutions (schools, etc.) where you need to be able to write well and summarise information; 
  • Decision-making and advising decision-makers: the business world, political bodies, ethics committees, etc; 
  • The world of education in a very broad sense; 
  • World of culture. 

The Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics is a BAC +3 diploma (180 ECTS credits), which gives students the opportunity to continue their studies in France or abroad at Master’s level in several fields:

  • Journalism.
  • Communication.
  • International relations.
  • Social sciences.
  • Law.
  • Economics.
  • Sustainable development.
  • Security.
  • Governance.
