Ukraine has often been told from a distance—through tactical maps, statistical controversies, and strategic debates. But rarely from the ground itself, through the voices of Ukrainians. Bearing witness to great tragedies as well as moments of life and resilience, Cyrille Amoursky reveals the country he loves as both a reporter and a participant—showing its pain, dignity, and strength, but also its humor, energy, and fierce determination to remain free. This is a true account of events, an intimate and vibrant book that proves it is possible to write about war without erasing the human.
On the roads of the East and in bombed villages, in forgotten countryside as well as in crowded stations filled with exiles, Cyrille Amoursky introduces us to a country that is diverse, full of contrasts, and often unexpected. He describes tired faces, families who bury their loved ones yet still find the strength to begin again. He captures a language that is evolving and a solidarity that surprises. His writing does not seek dramatic effect. It restores. It strikes because it is direct, close, and authentic.
Between past and present, between personal memory and journalistic rigor, this book reminds us that literature rooted in reality has value only when it enlightens, shakes, and moves us.
On Thursday, March 26, Cyrille Amoursky will present his book during an exceptional conference, followed by a book-signing session.
Organized in collaboration with Éditions du Cerf, the event is open to everyone, with prior registration required.
