Support and solidarity

Accessibility and disability

To guarantee equal opportunities and access to higher education for all students, various arrangements can be made for students with disabilities. These arrangements are designed to adjust for the difficulties encountered by students as a result of their disability and to enable them to follow their course in the best possible conditions.

Specific adjustments

Here are a few examples of adjustments that can be proposed:

Accessibility of spaces:

  • Installation of access ramps, lifts and adapted showers to make it easier for students with reduced mobility to get around.
  • Visual and/or audio signage for visually impaired students.

Teaching adjustments:

  • Hearing assistance in lecture theatres or classrooms: provision of magnetic loops or real-time sound transcription systems for hearing-impaired students.
  • Exam arrangements: extra time, permission to leave the examination room to rest or for medical treatment, use of a computer, spelling correction software, etc.
  • Individual assistance: provision of an assistant, scribe or reader for students who need them.
  • Composition in a separate room: for students who need more peace and quiet or more time to compose.

Adjustments to the course of study:

  • One-to-one tutoring: for students who need extra support.
  • Provision of adapted teaching materials: books and documents in digital format, specialised teaching software, etc.

Requests for accommodation for students with disabilities

The Université Catholique de Lille is committed to ensuring equal opportunities and access to higher education for all students through the Mission Accueil Handicap (MAH) (Disability Reception Mission)

To submit your request, here are the steps to follow:

1. Register on the MAH platform
This platform is used to create a file and monitor the progress of the adjustment request.

2. Make an appointment with the university doctor
Contact details can be found on the platform. It is important to bring documents relating to your condition to the appointment, such as a medical certificate or disability card.

3. Receipt of recommendations and confirmation of adjustment
After the appointment with the university doctor, the recommendations for accommodation will be sent to Ms Castillo, MAH advisor at ESPOL, who will then contact the student to inform them of the recommendations and confirm that the adjustment has been made.

It is important to note that:

  • Requests for adjustment should be made as early as possible in the academic year, ideally before the start of the course.
  • Accommodations are tailored to the specific needs of each student.
  • ESPOL provides students with disabilities with a number of resources and services to support them throughout their university career.

Violence, Harassment and Discrimination Unit

Message from the VHD team

The environment at the Université Catholique de Lille is unique and offers opportunities for conversations and interaction that are also unique in your student life. It’s a life experience in its own right.

The well-being and safety of students on our campuses is a priority shared by all.  In order to maintain this welcoming environment, we are introducing specific resources to combat violence, harassment and discrimination through a dedicated unit.

This unit offers a listening service, situation reports and personalised support. The unit can be active in each department for one-to-one meetings or via an anonymised or non-anonymised platform where witnesses or victims can express themselves in complete confidentiality.

We look forward to hearing from you,

In solidarity,

The VHD team

How do you go about it?

We will not tolerate any of these acts on the university campus. So if you come across this type of behaviour, we urge you to react quickly. Whether you are a student or a member of staff, a witness or a direct victim, we invite you to contact our dedicated unit as soon as possible: 03 59 56 79 80.
