On a gap year

Are you an ESPOL student wondering about the possibility of taking a gap year? This scheme, which is open to all students in higher education, allows you to take a temporary break from your studies to take part in an enriching and rewarding experience. A gap year can take place during a bachelor’s degree and/or during the master’s degree.

What is a gap year?

A gap year is a period of study suspension of up to one year, authorised by your higher education institution. It allows you to gain personal or professional experience outside the traditional academic framework.

I really enjoyed my gap year for several reasons. Firstly, I was able to meet lots of other volunteers, all with very different backgrounds. I made friends with whom I’m still in contact today, and it also gave me the opportunity to take a step back and look at what I could/wanted to do next. Exploring new things, without the pressure of being a volunteer, really helped me to develop my skills in many areas (event organisation, intercultural communication, etc.).

It was a really beneficial break from studying. I met a lot of people and it helped me to clarify my own projects.
