  • Janis Grzybowski is Associate Professor in Political Science/ International Relations at ESPOL and Research Fellow at the Research Center for International Politics (REPI) at the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB), Belgium. His research focuses on state creation, international theory, and the politics of international law.

    Dr. Grzybowski received his PhD in Political Science / International Relations from the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva (IHEID). He has been a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Helsinki and a visiting fellow at the Max Planck Institute of Comparative Public Law and International Law in Heidelberg, the American University in Cairo, the Frankfurt Peace Research Institute, and the Center for International Studies (CERI) at Sciences Po Paris.

    He is co-editor, with Hannes Černy, of Variations on Sovereignty: Contestations and Transformations from around the World (Routledge, 2023) and, with Giulia Prelz Oltramonti and Agatha Verdebout, of Contested States in War and Law (Bristol University Press, forthcoming 2025). His articles have appeared in the Review of International Studies, International Theory, International Relations, Geopolitics, and the European Journal of International Law, among others.
